Not his woe, mine! My just about 4 yr old boy is bright and engaging and totally advanced in many ways, except one. He is fighting potty training like you wouldn't believe. Not just pooping, peeing too. Most of the advice in the archives relates to 4 and 5 year olds who still won't go poo but use the toilet to pee.   Well my son just turned 4 years old on November and for some reason he is not talking in full sentences. I mean he can ask for things like when hes hungry or when he has to go to the bathroom but he wont have an actual conversation with you, is that normal or is there something that i should be concerned about.

A Year in my Life (Ages ) – A kids’ journal quite unlike any other, this beautifully illustrated book invites children to record a year of their life by filling in the quirky drawing and writing activities—one for every day of the year. Activities are fun, quick—so no .   Created by a teacher, this set features ten books that gradually include more letter sounds until your child has read every letter of the alphabet. (Here's why BOB Books are often the first kids can read on their own!) Language Development. On average, a 4-year-old knows about 1, words, but don’t start counting!

Parenting a 4-year-old can be a challenge at the best of times. Every child is different, of course, but here are some of the things you can expect from your 4-year-old .   Instead, make a point to “not care.” Be nonchalant when your 4 year old won’t poop on potty, and treat it matter-of-fact. Don’t let your emotions show through your face or the sighs you heave when she poops yet again in her undies. Instead, shrug your shoulders and pay it no mind.

The Big Honey Hunt Yep, this book's been around for a long time but kids today still love the story of Small Bear and his 'smart old Dad' who together go looking for honey, only to be faced by one danger after another.

This age group loves the humour and anticipation of this rhyming story which ends when Father Bear says: The best kind of honey doesn't come from trees, It comes from a store. If your son's development is really lacking, it will more than likely show up in other areas as well.

But at years old, he simply may not be ready to write yet. No big deal. I hope his teachers are not putting too much focus on "work" at his age – learning should be fun in preschool. I am today ordering some books to give to a child not yet born. They are classics which had an early and profound impact on my imagination.

Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey A family of ducks search for a home in Boston in this classic wh. you should be concerned about a 5 year old who is not yet able to participate in group play and make friends During the preschool developmental stage you can expect most healthy children to.

It also requires focus and attention and 5-year-olds are known for not doing well with tasks requiring focus and attention beyond a few minutes. Being unable to write 1 to within 15 minutes does not mean a 5-year-old has dysgraphia. I cannot say if he has it or not based on this alone.

The stories are well written and always model good behaviors. Franklin says please and thank you, he wears a helmet biking, and is nice to his little sister. The wording is a little bit longer, but 5 year old’s attention spans are able to enjoy longer stories.

Great list. My son was about 4 1/2 when we started reading chapter books, and the first book was The Railway Children by E. Nesbit. We read many “transitional” chapter-type books before that age — text-heavy series of linked stories with continuous characters but not continuous plot, such as Pooh, Herriot's Treasury, Thomas the Tank Engine, etc.
